God was and is watching over me..
April 9, 1969 - Viet Nam - USMC - We had been in another fire fight, had taken some prisoners and were on our way back to camp, when bullets began whizzing past my head. I had just jumped into a ravine and only my head was showing. My A-gunner had started up the other side and the bullets were hitting the dirt all around him. I turned to fire back, and give Robert time to get back in the ravine. As I spun around, two bullets hit me. One in the mouth, following my left jaw bone, taking out 1 1/2 inches of jaw bone and 9 teeth. The other hit me in the right side of my neck. These rounds, should have taken my head off, but God was with me. I was eventualy sent back to the U.S. where I spent the next 6 months at Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, California. I am doing fine now, have been through many surgeries to repair my jaw bone and teeth. Just by looking at me, you could never tell I was ever shot. The VA has done an excellent job of putting me back together. New technologies over the years, have given me implants for teeth, and other than the fact my face is num, I am doing alright. Praise God.
